Designed as a retreat from the demands of a high-pressure career, this Mount Royal condo was reimagined with a calm, Japandi-inspired aesthetic that encourages relaxation, simplicity, and intentional living.
While the existing layout offered beautiful city views, it didn’t support the client’s lifestyle. By reconfiguring the main living spaces and swapping the dining and living room locations, we created a more intuitive flow that better reflects the way the home is used. A sleek, understated dining fixture was carefully selected to preserve uninterrupted sightlines while providing a sculptural focal point.
Every design decision was made with comfort and function in mind. Knowing the client’s love of reading, we created a cozy lounge area designed for quiet moments to unwind with a book. In the living room, a grasscloth-inspired wallcovering behind the television softens the contrast between the bright white walls and the dark screen, adding warmth, texture, and visual balance.
The primary bedroom continues the home’s tranquil atmosphere with a custom fluted feature wall, accented by a marble display ledge and curated Japanese-inspired artwork. Layered textures, warm wood tones, and blackout drapery transform the space into a peaceful sanctuary designed for restorative sleep.
Flexibility was equally important throughout the home. The secondary bedroom was designed as a multifunctional office and guest suite, featuring a custom Murphy bed that seamlessly disappears when not in use, allowing the room to function as a dedicated workspace. Throughout the residence, natural materials, thoughtful storage solutions, and a restrained palette work together to create a home that feels warm, refined, and effortlessly calming.
