Small Space Big Personality

When purchasing a 900-square-foot condo, interior design can be a challenge. It’s hard to determine how to create a space that reflects your personal style and taste. Small condos typically have a dining table, a small sectional, maybe some stools at the kitchen island, and whatever you can fit into a small bedroom, usually a bed, and nightstand. How do you inject personality and style into a small space when you barely have room for furniture? The small details make the biggest difference.

Lush Interiors has a few tips for making your space warm and inviting with an emphasis on your personal style. These tips will help create a home that is unique and inviting for you and your guests.

To create visual interest in your space, add texture and layers. Wallpaper is the obvious choice, but adding brick tiles, concrete walls, faux wood walls, and multiple window treatments are excellent ways to add texture.

Don’t be afraid to use a luxurious area carpet over low pile wall-to-wall carpet, especially in the bedroom. Using various textures in soft furnishings and throws and toss cushions also creates warmth and drama.

Lighting is key in any space and using it creatively helps to set the mood and tone. Multiple sources of light, both task and ambient can create the desired mood. Layering floor lamps, table lamps under cabinet lighting, and using unique dining fixtures is key.

Creating separate areas for reading, eating, and entertaining is also a great way to make the space feel larger and helps to create unique experiences within a small space.

Adding personal touches through artwork and accessories and layering these items makes your space unique and speaks to your personal taste and style.

Find items that you don’t see every day at your local retailer, such as books, items you have collected on your travels or using a designer to curate your space.

Incorporating real plants and indoor gardens add colour, and life to a small space.

Mix both old and new furniture and décor into your space. This creates visual tension and interest between elements.

Remember, the small details make the biggest difference in interior design. If you need help incorporating any of these ideas into your home interiors, our design team is always available!
