We are proud to share this Calgary interior decorating project because we won Decorating & Design Silver Award Winner for Best Small Space by Design & Decorators Association of Canada in 2021.
The interior design of this 900-square-foot condo was a challenge. This busy professional needed this small space to function in a variety of ways. The client needed a quiet, dark bedroom for sleeping during the day, a dedicated office, a space for relaxing and watching TV, an elevated dining area, and a bar. The requested design style was steampunk inspired. We transformed this builder-basic condo with paint, installed distressed brick, wallpaper, and concrete panels. We designed an office space adjacent to the front entry, elevated the dining room with a vintage-inspired light, moody black sheers, a bar area with wall hung wine rack and bar cart and his own indoor herb garden in the kitchen.
Key Features:
• We converted the front entry into a dedicated office space, using concrete panels on the wall to create the feel of a separate space, incorporating art and personal framed pieces into the space.
• The Floor space was at a premium, so we opted to use a wall hanging wine rack, along with a vintage inspired bar cart for a place to entertain guests.
• Our client likes to cook and really wanted a herb garden, so hanging pots on the wall allowed us to save on precious counterspace while providing him with fresh herbs year round.
• We elevated the dining room with custom sheers, a vintage inspired light and used a glass dining table to keep the space from feeling too heavy and crowded.
• In the living area we customized a sectional that would fit the space perfectly and installed vintage brick on the wall to create that industrial, steam punk vibe. All the decor supports that look through colours, textures, and steam punk style.
• The client had a few Sid Dickens tiles he wanted to display and while at the High Point Furniture Market, Charlene met with Sid and purchased a few more pieces for the client to add to his display.
• For the primary bedroom, we repeated the same brick on the feature wall and used custom blackout drapes in a heavy fabric to keep sounds and light out during the day. We layered an area carpet over the wall to wall carpet to absorb more sounds. The decor carries that industrial vibe with the reclaimed wood bed, complete with storage, a must in a small space.
• Since the main bathroom was front and centre off the living room, we opted to create an impact with vintage inspired typography wall covering and extra storage for apothecary items when guests are visiting.
• This entire condo is a smart home, so every light, blind, drapery and electronic device is controlled remotely or by voice command. When our client comes home after a long day, he can command Alexa to create the perfect environment to relax and unwind.
